IED Clearance Good Practice Guide

2.1.2. ELECTRONIC An electronic time IED uses a digital timer, either from adapted commercially available components or from a bespoke circuit, which provides a specified output at a predetermined moment in time. This output is often not large enough to directly function an initiator (detonator) so frequently an additional step-up circuit is incorporated to increase the power.
