FIELD SUPPORT

National strategies are developed, adopted and implemented by states according to good practice IMMEDIATE OUTCOME 1

MANAGEMENT OF RESIDUAL EXPLOSIVE REMNANTS OF WAR (MORE)

ADAPTATIONS The COVID-19 pandemic posed limitations on field implementation and the extension of support to countries / territories outside the SEA region. Planned activities in Lao PDR, Thailand and Vietnam were postponed to 2021. To mitigate the pandemic’s impact, the GICHD swiftly adapted MORE’s activities and meetings to be held online. Together with the GICHD’s ammunition management team, MORE turned its focus on developing online materials and tools.

project, the project supported the development of the CMAA’S NMAS with a specific focus on gender. Working together with Vietnam (VNMAC) and the UNDP, the GICHD provided comments on VNMAC’s draft technical regulations and translated 11 IMAS into Vietnamese. Evolving in its project implementation and lessons learnt, the MORE project has been updated to the ‘Risk Management for Mine Action’ project. The new phase continues in 2021 to support SEA countries affected by explosive ordnance through a wider risk management lens.

This project continued to pave the way for the integration of risk management frameworks and systems into national policies and work plans of South-East Asia (SEA) countries affected by explosive ordnance. In collaboration with the GICHD’s NMAS Development Assistance project, MORE supported Cambodia (CMAA) with the review of their NMAS on Monitoring of Mine Action Demining Organisations, through stakeholder coordination meetings and by providing feedback. In close collaboration with the GICHD’s Gender and Diversity Capacity Development
