GICHD 2020 Performance Report

FIELD SUPPORT

National standards are developed, adopted and implemented by states, according to international standards IMMEDIATE OUTCOME 2

NATIONAL MINE ACTION STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE

ADAPTATIONS Planned activities and outcomes in Iraq, Libya, Vietnam, and Ukraine were heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and related travel restrictions. To mitigate this impact to the greatest extent possible, the GICHD implemented this project through online means where possible and postponed wider support to 2021.

with the review of their NMAS (chapters on monitoring and gender), in coordination with the MORE project and drawing support from the gender and diversity division. The GICHD also assisted Yemen (YMACC) with the finalisation of its NMAS, with a focus on non-technical survey, leading to increased safety for the YMACC staff on the ground and to the development of a common understanding on reporting frameworks and standardised definitions. These outcomes were supported by parallel GICHD IM activities around the establishment of an IM system to support YMACC’s reporting requirements.

The GICHD assists NMAAs with developing, reviewing, and updating their NMAS for safe and efficient implementation of their mine action interventions. In 2020, in Afghanistan, an online workshop on risk management was organised to increase MAPA’s familiarity with IMAS 07.13 and identify key steps in developing Afghanistan’s liability policy. These outcomes were delivered through parallel GICHD activities on the development of Afghanistan’s national mine action strategy, supported by the GICHD’s Strategic Planning Programme. The GICHD supported Cambodia (CMAA)
