FIELD SUPPORT
States and other partners use quality information to support their programming and operational management IMMEDIATE OUTCOME 3
MOBILE DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTENANCE
ADAPTATIONS The development of MARS version 2, which allows it to function on different operating systems, was postponed to 2021 as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 restrictions also affected the development of an open-source software implementation for IMSMA Core. In a positive spin, the mobile development and maintenance project saw a spike in requests, resulting in an increase of the project’s activities foreseen for 2021.
activities using the GICHD’s data collection tools. Due to the efficiency and effectiveness of the GICHD’s mobile development and maintenance project, Afghanistan (DMAC) and Libya (LibMAC) were able to reduce reporting errors, thus improving their information management capacity under the GICHD’s IMCDF. Testament to the GICHD’s success were the five additional requests received in 2020 from mine action organisations that looked at incorporating MARS into their operations. The GICHD incorporated a session on MARS in its non- technical survey training course and has supported other centres in the sector by providing training on MARS.
The GICHD developed a mobile data collection application, the Mine Action Reporting System (MARS) to enable mine action operators to collect quality data and transfer them to national authorities’ IMSMA New Generation (NG) databases. Consequently, in 2020, the GICHD provided mine action organisations and NMAAs with steady and secure mobile data collection services resulting in the reporting of more than 2,400 mine action activities. Afghanistan (DMAC) and Libya (LibMAC) used MARS to collect and migrate their activity reports to IMSMA NG. LibMAC’s top two implementing partners have also been using MARS, resulting in Libya reporting over 1,850
