FIELD SUPPORT

Regional cooperation furthers the exchange, and dissemination and adoption of good practice IMMEDIATE OUTCOME 5

FRANCOPHONE REGIONAL COOPERATION PROGRAMME (FRCP)

organising regional meetings, and sharing information on mine action events in French. With the aim of facilitating access to mine action documents, 8 IMAS chapters were translated into French in 2020; 6 previously translated IMAS were reviewed; and a total of 14 IMAS have been made available through the IMAS website. ADAPTATIONS The unforeseen pandemic partly impacted progress of the GICHD’s FRCP outcomes. Due to travel restrictions, the GICHD had to postpone its planned liaison visit to CPADD, to 2021.

2020, during the 23rd NDM-UN, the GICHD organised a francophone regional breakout group for African French-speaking countries, which brought together 30 participants from mine-affected countries and territories, as well as representatives from donor states, international organisations, operators, and civil society. Amongst other topics, the discussion focused on how the promotion of regional cooperation could add value to the mine action efforts of countries in the region. Building on this momentum, the Centre decided to strengthen its engagement in the region through the FRCP, including by facilitating access to mine action documents in French,

The FRCP was established in 2006, when French-speaking African countries made a request for the translation of mine action resources into French such as publications and standards. An idea emerged for a regional cooperation programme based on a common language. In 2011, the Francophone programme was handed over to the Centre de Perfectionnement aux Actions Post- Conflictuelles de Déminage et de Dépollution (CPADD) in Benin and, in 2016, to the Commission Nationale de Lutte contre la Prolifération des Armes Légères du Mali (CNLPAL). Following this period, little activity has been carried out or reported in the framework of the FRCP. In
