ADAPTATIONS The GICHD swiftly adapted its planning in early 2020 to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on its activities relating to in-person training courses, assessments, and monitoring visits. The 2019–2021 gender focal point capacity development programme and in-country visits were adapted for remote delivery and met partner expectations and requirements.

The GICHD supported Afghanistan by assessing progress towards the gender mainstreaming goals outlined in its national mine action strategy plan and provided recommendations that will inform Afghanistan’s new strategy. These outcomes were delivered through capitalising on parallel activities around Afghanistan’s national mine action strategy, supported by the GICHD’s strategic planning programme. The GICHD supported The HALO Trust by conducting monitoring exercises and extending technical assistance to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia. Lastly, the GICHD
The GICHD’s gender and mine action programme (GMAP) provides support and technical expertise on gender and diversity mainstreaming, enabled by a relationship of trust with partners. In 2020, participants representing organisations working in Cambodia, Colombia, Iraq, Lebanon, Nigeria, Vietnam on the 2019–2021 gender focal point (GFP) capacity development programme, put into practice their new knowledge and skills by supporting their organisations to formalize the GFP’s terms of reference. They adopted an action plan and recommendations on improving gender and diversity mainstreaming in operational systems and practices. Building on these efforts, the GICHD launched its first
