GENDER AND DIVERSITY SUPPORT TO CONVENTIONS
ADAPTATIONS COVID-19 prevented the conventions’ meetings from taking place in-person as originally planned, so approval of the draft text of the Lausanne Action Plan was postponed to 2021. However, G&D support to the conventions was maintained through the informal input of the GWG and GMAP to the GICHD’s contributions to the APMBC and CCM.
GFPs under the APMBC through online sessions and the provision of written documents and supported the Group of Experts of Amended Protocol II (CCW). A dedicated page was created on the GICHD website to centralise reference documents for the informal GWG’s work and to increase their visibility. In addition, the GICHD reviewed and provided gender and diversity input on APMBC Article 5 extension requests presented by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Colombia, and South Sudan. Upon request, the GICHD also provided gender and diversity input to the annual publications of the Mine Action Review: ‘Clearing the Mines’ and ‘Clearing Cluster Munitions Remnants’.
The 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development highlighted the importance of gender and the inclusion of all, for lasting results in all development endeavours by mainstreaming gender throughout the SDGs. In its 2019–2022 Strategy, the GICHD adopted a strategic objective on gender equality: Gender equality and inclusion are achieved, and women and girls empowered. To this end, in 2020 the GICHD continued to participate in the informal gender working group (GWG) that provided recommendations on how to mainstream gender and diversity in the CCM draft Lausanne Action Plan, with a focus on related actions and indicators in the Plan’s results framework. The informal GWG also assisted the new
