GICHD 2022 Performance Report

GLOBAL FRAMEWORK

11

The reduction of risks from explosive ordnance contributes to humanitarian action and sustainable development

To enhance its relevance, efficiency, and sustainability, mine action should be understood and operationalised as a contribution to, and part of, broader agendas. To this end, the GICHD develops stronger collaboration among the mine action, ammunition management, peace and security, gender equality and development sectors. ACHIEVEMENTS In 2022, the GICHD conducted four case studies linking mine action and the SDGs and pursued its podcast mini series ‘Promoting inclusive peace building and sustainable peace efforts in Colombia’. Two additional episodes were released, including as part of the Geneva Peace Week, when the GICHD collaborated with the Norwegian Refugee Council on the episode that explored the implications of displacement for access to housing, land and property. The Centre also participated in an UNIDIR briefing for diplomats and was invited to present at a workshop organised by the NATO International Military Staff Office of the Gender Advisor. It collaborated with UNIDIR and the International Gender Champions Disarmament Impact Group to produce a factsheet on GD mainstreaming in the CCM. The GICHD pursued work

on a dedicated platform to increase donor awareness of GDEI in the mine action sector. Consultations took place with donors, and the findings were used to develop the platform’s content. The GICHD Director continued to participate in the International Gender Champions network. In addition to upholding the Panel Parity Pledge, the Director committed to the Gender based Violence Pledge, which takes a zero tolerance approach to gender-based violence and sexist attitudes and behaviour. LESSONS LEARNT T Recognition of the GICHD’s expertise in mainstreaming mine action within broader agendas continues to grow. T Synergies need to be built more effectively within the GICHD in order to benefit the work on linking mine action with broader peace and sustainable development outcomes. T The level of engagement of the various partners in the Maison de la paix GD Hub varies significantly. The GICHD therefore needs to take a more active role in coordinating joint initiatives.
